Ski Safety in the Alps: Meet Caroline, Ski Patrol Expert and Winter Swimmer

At the London Snow Show, I met the inspiring Caroline; though our introduction came in an unusual way. While we were chatting, her gorgeous off-duty working rescue dog quietly helped itself to my lunch straight out of my handbag. Safe to say, it was a memorable start to the conversation.

Caroline has spent many years working in ski patrol rescue and avalanche control in the Alps, responding to accidents and helping keep skiers safe in challenging mountain conditions. After a long career on the slopes, she is now focusing on something she believes is just as important as rescue: ski safety and accident prevention.

“Accidents are increasing on the slopes, but many of them can be reduced with better awareness, education and the right mindset.

Alongside her patrol work, Caroline is also a passionate winter swimmer, regularly swimming in alpine lakes during the colder months. After emerging from freezing water, she throws on her Cosimac robe to warm up quickly — essential for cold-water recovery in the mountains.

Caroline now shares her expertise through an online ski safety course and tailored group webinars, helping skiers and mountain groups prepare properly before heading to the Alps.

If you're planning a ski trip this season, learning from a ski patrol professional with real rescue experience could make all the difference.
